neoES: BESS controller

Make your BESS an active player on site, charging, discharging and protecting itself in real time.

neoES is NeoTAQ's BESS controller — managing battery dispatch, state of charge and protection for hybrid energy sites across Asia, GCC and Africa.

It connects to your Battery Management System and Power Conversion System, reads the full state of the battery, and dispatches charge and discharge commands that keep the site within its power limits while protecting the pack.

Operating modes

  • BESS Prime

Battery leads. Grid and genset act as backup and supplementary sources.

  • Genset Prime

Genset leads. Battery provides peak shaving and buffer.

  • Grid Prime

Grid leads. Battery and genset provide backup and optimisation.

  • VSG Mode

Virtual Synchronous Generator. neoES emulates the inertia and damping of a synchronous generator, providing grid stability support, frequency regulation and voltage control from BESS, without physical rotating mass.

Failsafe protection built in

If communication between any device and neoCore is lost, neoES automatically enters failsafe mode, curtailing PV output and maintaining safe operation without manual intervention.

Data export and visualisation

  • Locally over USB
  • Locally via Modbus Gateway: connects to third party EMS and SCADA
  • Locally via FTP Push
  • Remotely via API integration

Core capabilities

Full battery visibility

  • Connects to BMS, PCS and hybrid inverters across protocols, including Modbus RTU/TCP and OPC UA.
  • Continuously reads state-of-charge, voltage, current, power, temperature and fault conditions, standardised and validated.
  • Per-measurement alarms with full history and change-based reporting, so a thermal or voltage event is caught the instant it happens.

Charge / discharge control

  • Charges when energy is cheap or surplus, and discharges when it's valuable or needed.
  • Holds power to your target smoothly, ramping gently so the pack and the site are never shocked by a sudden change.
  • Respects configurable SOC windows and power limits, so the battery always stays inside its safe envelope.

Protection first

  • SOC, power, voltage and temperature limits are enforced continuously. The battery is never asked to operate outside its safe range.
  • Stale or offline battery data is detected and kept out of control decisions before it can cause harm.
  • On a fault, neoES ramps to a safe state automatically and recovers only once readings are healthy and stable.

Same platform, one view

  • Battery telemetry is logged offline-first on the edge and synced to neoSphere with zero data loss during outages.
  • SOC, power flow, cycles and alarms stream live to the on-site dashboard and to neoSphere for multi-site monitoring.
  • The battery appears alongside PV, grid and genset in a single power-flow view.

Site-aware applications

neoES coordinates the battery with everything else on site.

Application What neoES does
Peak shaving Discharges to cap site demand below a target, charges off-peak.
Self-consumption Stores surplus PV and releases it when generation drops.
Export / import control Charges to absorb would-be export; discharges to avoid costly import.
Genset support Uses stored energy to keep gensets above minimum load and reduce runtime.
Backup readiness Holds a reserve SOC for outage ride-through.

How it works

  1. Read

Reads SOC, power, health and limits from your BMS and PCS.

  2. Decide

Decides when to store or release energy, within every limit.

  3. Dispatch

Commands charge or discharge on demand, always protected.

neoES runs on the same NeoTAQ edge as neoLog and neoSync. The battery is logged, controlled and coordinated with the rest of the site by one platform, not three. It appears alongside PV, grid and genset in one power-flow view in neoSphere.

Who it's for

  • Solar-plus-storage sites maximising self-consumption and export value.
  • C&I operators shaving demand peaks and avoiding tariff penalties.
  • Hybrid microgrids blending PV, storage and gensets for the lowest-cost, most reliable supply.
  • EPCs and integrators who want BESS control across BMS/PCS brands without bespoke code.

The neoES advantage

  • Turn storage into strategy: charge and discharge on the conditions that matter to your site.
  • Protect the pack: SOC, power, voltage and temperature limits enforced on every control cycle.
  • One brain for the whole site: battery, PV, grid and genset coordinated together.
  • Vendor-neutral. Any supported BMS/PCS, regardless of brand.
  • Never lose a reading. Offline-first logging and resilient cloud sync built in.

neoES: questions buyers ask

See NeoTAQ run on sites like yours and get answers mapped to your setup.

What does a BESS controller do?

A BESS controller manages battery dispatch, state of charge, charging windows and protection limits. neoES dispatches the battery to support the site within safe SoC and power limits — including smart charging that shifts to off-peak hours or solar surplus.

Part of the NeoTAQ platform

One edge hardware, one platform. What you log you can control; what you control you can store, all feeding the neoSphere cloud.
