Most AI in energy monitoring runs in the cloud. That works well, until a remote site loses its connection, which is exactly when operators need answers most. At NeoTAQ, our next step is putting AI on the site itself.
Key takeaways
- NeoTAQ already uses AI in neoSphere to flag anomalies and faults across fleets of sites.
- We are now moving that intelligence onto the site controller, so faults are caught locally and in real time, even with no connection.
- This matters most for remote solar, battery, generator and telecom sites with weak connectivity.
- NeoTAQ is a member of the NVIDIA Inception program.
Why edge AI matters for remote sites
Our controllers and cloud platform let operators see and control every asset at a site on one screen: solar, batteries, generators, turbines, rectifiers and process equipment, from any brand.
Many of these sites are far from the nearest engineer and run on unreliable links. Cloud analytics only help when data reaches the cloud. If a battery starts failing or an inverter trips during an outage of the link, the site needs to recognise it and respond on its own.
Edge AI closes that gap. The controller learns what normal looks like for that site, spots when something drifts, and acts or alerts straight away. When the connection comes back, everything syncs to neoSphere.
What we are building
- AI on the controller. We are adding local AI to our next generation of site controllers, building on neoCore and neoCube, with edge AI modules such as NVIDIA Jetson among the platforms we are building on.
- Fleet-wide analytics. Faster anomaly detection and solar and load forecasting across thousands of sites in neoSphere.
- Plain-language answers. AI assistants that let site teams ask simple questions about their equipment and get clear answers.
Where it helps first
- Off-grid and hybrid sites: catching battery and PCS issues before they threaten the reserve.
- Telecom towers: spotting weak batteries and rectifier faults before a site drops off air.
- Industrial plants: flagging unusual energy use at a process stage as it happens.
Frequently asked questions
Do NeoTAQ products need an internet connection to work? No. Site control runs locally on the controller today. Edge AI extends that so analysis also happens on site.
Which hardware will NeoTAQ use for edge AI? Our controllers are brand-agnostic by design. We select edge AI modules on performance, cost and ruggedness for field conditions, and NVIDIA Jetson is among the platforms we are working with as a member of the NVIDIA Inception program.
